17 Month Update

Getting a mind of her own
Alana's will is becoming more and more evident. We can't tell at times if she's acting up because she's tired or sick or out of her element, or if she's just upset because she didn't get what she wanted. She can get really angry and has now thrown more than a couple of tantrums.  Her teachers at school say all kids start to test boundaries and throw occasional tantrums at this age.  I know this is just part of growing up, but I didn't anticipate it would start at a year and a half of age.  It's the "terrible TWOs", not terrible one and a half...

It's definitely leading to more conversations about discipline, consistency, what is working, what isn't, etc.  Andrew and I recently got some good pointers from Tanya and Wilson, which we'll be putting into action.  Other than that, we'll just keep doing the best we can, and pray that Alana grows up to love God and treat others with love and respect.

Other Alana news...

  • Alana loves lip balm!
  • She's in size 5-6 diapers
  • Wears anything from 18 months - 2T and size 6-7 shoes
  • New words she can say: star, Cole, Tucker, car, choo choo, cracker, Auge (eye)
  • Still loves bubbles
  • Is becoming pickier with what she'll eat
  • Slides off our bed without assistance (our bed used to be too high off the ground for her to do this)
  • Likes walking (rather than crawling) up and down stairs (with assistance)
  • Loves being outside
  • Loves markers - not so much drawing with them, but taking the cap off and putting it back on
  • Sleeps with four stuffed animals (two cats, a bear, and a bunny) and insists that Andrew kisses each one when he gets her out of bed in the mornings.
