Gulf Shores Vacation

Recently, we went on a week-long vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama.  We've gone in October before with our good friends Kevin and Crae and really loved the beach at that time of year.  The weather is beautiful--not too hot or cold--the water is warm, and best of all, the beaches are empty and it feels like you have the entire beach to yourself.

This year, we decided to rent a beach house with Grant and Jessica right on the beach.  It was wonderfully convenient--a must with a baby.  No going up or down elevators and lugging everything back and forth from the beach to your condo every time you have to eat or use the bathroom.  We could set everything up in the morning and have it on the beach all day.

Andrew, Alana, and I really had a great time with Grant and Jessica.  The weather was perfect.  It rained a couple of mornings, but cleared up by mid day.  Hurricane Karen was coming in toward the end of our stay and it was beautiful to listen to and see the waves, which were much bigger than usual.

Highlights of our trip:
  • Watching the sunrise every morning
  • Going for walks on the beach.  I carried Alana in the Baby K'tan sling and she loved it.
  • Pandemic board game.  Thanks, Jess and Grant for introducing it to us.
  • Game of Thrones board game.  I can't believe we actually played it!  This game has been sitting on our shelf at home for months.  We've wanted to play it, but it requires several players and the instructional video itself is like an hour long.  The game is intimidating, to say the least, and we just hadn't had the time to dedicate to it before vacation.
  • Lambert's Restaurant
  • Watching a fisherman reel in a sting ray
  • Spending time with Jess and Grant
Here are a few videos and pictures of our trip.
