Mimi and Poppy Visit

Note:  Wayne, formerly known as Pawpaw, has officially been renamed Poppy at our house.  Pawpaw was too close to Papa.

Mimi and Poppy came to visit us in Nashville a couple of weekends ago.  It was a short, but very enjoyable visit.  They arrived Friday afternoon and left on Sunday.  It didn't take Alana long to warm up to them. It may have helped they came with gifts wrapped in fun tissue paper, which she thoroughly enjoyed.  Although she may have initially enjoyed the paper more than the presents, she now really likes the presents too.  She snuggles with the stuffed animals and has worn the Spring outfit several times.  Thank you Mimi and Poppy, not only for the gifts, but for spending quality time with Alana over the weekend.  It's a blessing to have such doting and engaged grandparents to love our daughter.

Overall, our weekend was relaxed.  Andrew, Alana, and I enjoyed spending quality time with Mimi, Poppy, Eric, and Kelly.  We ate too much, laughed a lot, played board games, went on a girl's shopping trip while the guys drove around, spent time with Eric's grandpa, and dealt with Pink Eye...  Well, luckily, it was only Alana who contracted it.  She woke up with goopy eyes on Saturday and they got goopier as the day progressed.  After a phone call to my sister Tanya, we decided to seek treatment Saturday afternoon.  We learned the Minute Clinic by our house doesn't see babies under 18 months old and neither does the Urgent Care Clinic.  Luckily, our pediatrician agreed to call in a prescription.  Alana was a perfect baby through it all. It didn't seem to bother her that the goop in her eyes dried them shut after naps.  She still woke up happy.  By Monday morning, her eyes were all clear.  We still took her to the doctor because the Pediatrician had recommended it.  Apparently, 75% of babies her age who have an eye infection also have an ear infection.  Fortunately, Alana didn't have one.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how infrequently Alana has been sick.  It seems everyone talks about how often babies get sick during the winter months, especially with ear infections, but Alana hasn't had any.  Besides this episode of pink eye and a couple of colds, she's only been really sick one other time.  Knock on wood!

Mimi and Poppy, thank you again for visiting.  You have always been supportive, encouraging, and fun to be around.  We love you!

PS:  Andrew says now that you have new smart phones, we should do more "facial interaction".  (For those who don't know what that is, it is Jolene's name for video chat)

Wish I had thought to get a group picture while Kelly and Eric were still over and Alana was awake.
