15 Month Update

15 month stats - taken November 13th
Height:  32 inches (87th percentile)
Weight: 26 lbs 3 oz (89th percentile)

New things
  • Alana has ten teeth.
  • She learned to go down stairs correctly.
  • She points to airplanes whenever she hears them.  She's so quick to spot them, that Andrew and I often don't see them until we follow her finger and see a teeny tiny plane that's far, far away.
  • She recently started saying "no" and "na" which I assume is "nein".  In most cases, she says "no" and "na" to herself and not yet in the correct context...
  • Hand, Foot, and Mouth.  Talk about a terrible virus.  It's been going around her daycare and some of the kids got the sores in their mouth and wouldn't eat or drink.  One of the mom's told me she had to take her son to the ER because he got so dehydrated.  Luckily, Alana didn't get the sores in her mouth, but she did break out with them all over her hands, legs, diaper area, feet, and the outside of her mouth.  The ones on her feet were the worst.  Blisters formed under and between her toes, burst open, and oozed blood and puss for a couple of days, leaving her skin completely raw.  We cleaned them often and rubbed Neosporin over the affected area.  That seemed to help with the healing.  I'd say, this is the worst sickness she's had so far.  And even so, she was a trooper.  We kept her home for two days (Saturday and Sunday) and she was all smiles and ready to go back to school by Monday.
Some things haven't changed

  • She still has a Mongolian spot on her lower back above her behind.  People have mistaken it for a bruise...
  • She's still very social.  At school, she's now not only known as the "class greeter" and "social butterfly", but also as the "school ambassador".  The school offers tours to people who would like to send their kids to Primrose.  Alana's teacher recently told me that the front office staff always is sure to bring those tours by Alana's classroom because she is so nice to everyone. Andrew and I love hearing about these things and are thankful for a school and staff that make communication with parents a priority.

Here's a recent picture taken on November 8th.  I think she looks so old in this picture - like a little girl, rather than a toddler.

Compare this to a picture of Alana taken last year on the same day, November 8th.

  1. Wow she looks so different in those two pictures. It is crazy how much she has grown, and how old she does look in the first picture. I am also glad she is over the hand foot and mouth! I missed not being able to holder her during that time, but Thanksgiving is coming up! :)
